Quite honestly, it was ridiculous how much I crammed in. \u00a0My motive was selfish like it usually is. \u00a0I grew up watching <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tv.com\/shows\/wonder-woman\/\">Wonder Woman<\/a>\u00a0advertised by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.revlon.com\/\">Enjoli<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Enjoli Perfume Commercial, 1970s\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xLZEpNAaN9Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I can bring home the bacon. \u00a0Fry it up in the pan. \u00a0And make you never forget that you&#8217;re a man. \u00a0&#8216;Cause I&#8217;m a woman&#8230;Enjoli.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There you have it. \u00a0I&#8217;m growing \u00a0up in the 1970&#8217;s with my female role models on television Lynda Carter, the actress for Wonder Woman and the actress for Enjoli . \u00a0The breaks from the show burned into my head the message that I can do it all and have it all by a jingle powerfully set to the master of learning: music and visual screen.<\/p>\n<p>Is it a wonder that Gordon Dahl wrote this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wqotw.org\/quote.php?date=2008-09-02\">critique<\/a>\u00a0of American work and worship more than thirty-six years ago (1972)?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;Most middle-class Americans tend to worship their work; work at their play; and play at their worship. That which we worship, we serve, and that which we serve we will give our all&#8211;heart, soul, mind and body.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Reflecting this morning makes me think that maybe the loss of the middle class might not be such a bad thing\u00a0<strong><em>if<\/em><\/strong> we were that brainwashed and misled.<\/p>\n<p>I witness too many well intended parents signing their children up for this and that. \u00a0Driving here and there in horrible traffic. \u00a0And therefore stressing themselves and their children out.<\/p>\n<p>What happens when we are too busy? \u00a0We don&#8217;t have time to listen to others and to mind our manners. \u00a0I&#8217;m so rushed to get done what I need to accomplish that I skip &#8220;How are you?&#8221; and just jump to what I want. \u00a0When was the last time you asked this question you were willing to hear the answer?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an American cultural embarrassment that we really don&#8217;t want people to answer this question. \u00a0We have lost our manners and therefore lost the respect of those around the world who do mean what they say.<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that what irritates me the most about some? \u00a0They can sit around all day to talk. \u00a0There&#8217;s no question I want you to hear what I have to say. \u00a0I&#8217;m a woman, a recovering misguided religious zealot, and a writer. \u00a0Of course I have too much to say! \u00a0But do I care enough about you to hear about what you have to say? \u00a0Now that&#8217;s humbling.<\/p>\n<p>And then we wonder why we are so lonely. \u00a0We have destroyed the very fabric of relationships. \u00a0Relationships don&#8217;t work when ego rules. \u00a0I believe this is why its such a hot topic these days to call your partner, boss, or parent \u00a0narcissists. \u00a0The biggest problem is that we <em>all<\/em> narcissists to some degree. \u00a0Have you observed how we behave right out of the womb? Feed me, hold me, cloth me, xyz me. It&#8217;s part of our human nature. \u00a0This is why the sea bird scene in Finding Nemo is so funny \u00a0and therefore outside of the ride at <a href=\"https:\/\/disneyworld.disney.go.com\/attractions\/epcot\/seas-with-nemo-and-friends\/\">Epcot.<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hopetheparentteacher.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_7427.mov\">img_7427<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The wise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=James+1%3A19&amp;version=ESV\">words<\/a>\u00a0to be slow to speak but quick to understand are what the late Stephen R. Covey built his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stephencovey.com\/7habits\/7habits-habit5.php\">5th Habit from<\/a>\u00a0for a reason. It just good manners. \u00a0Of which we have become to busy to practice.<\/p>\n<p>The resulting consequences are disastrous. \u00a0In our misguided beliefs that we can do it all and have it all, we have raised\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/madelinelevine.com\/the-price-of-privilege\/\">privileged\u00a0<\/a>self-centered children who often need therapy due to their resulting anxiety and depression issues. \u00a0 Students who lack respect of teachers and authority. \u00a0Workers who lack respect for bosses. \u00a0Residents who disrespect governing leaders. \u00a0People who kill cops. \u00a0And presidential candidates who name call and bully their opponents.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, I had a mother who taught me to read a chapter in the book of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs+1\">Proverbs <\/a>every day.<\/p>\n<p>Parents, what you teach your children when they are young may not defeat the culture, but it will instill a consciousness and a basis for a heart in your child. \u00a0Let&#8217;s get back to being great parents, because our mainstream technological culture lacks a soul. \u00a0But remember to first practice what you preach. \u00a0 Slow down. \u00a0Practice saying, &#8220;No thank you.&#8221; Choose your commitments wisely. \u00a0Change them when you realize it&#8217;s too much. \u00a0And most of all grow up yourself by healing the broken hurting child inside of you.<\/p>\n<p>-author of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/redpandanetwork.org\/red-panda-wisdom-from-a-cub-called-rojo\/\">Rojo, The Baby Red Panda at the Zoo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I accepted invitations to several fantastic events in an 8 day period.
